Q&A with Dr. B

Asked and answered! A great Q&A is a goldmine of learning opportunities and this one was phenomenal. Get even more resources, links, and guidance by listening in.

Fact: food intolerances can be complicated. Even if you know you have them, you might not be able to pinpoint the exact root cause of your discomfort.

In my newest book, The Fiber Fueled Cookbook, I aim to provide you a path that will allow you to rekindle your relationship with food so that you can stop fearing it and get back to loving it.

But there’s only so much I could cover in the pages of a book. Fun tidbit: Book publishers strictly enforce page limits! And while I tried to include the most important information to help people identify and heal food intolerances, there was only so far I could take it. The finished book came in at just under 400 pages, but I could have easily doubled it (and then some!) if given no limits.

Since my book came out in May, thousands have discovered the culprit behind their digestive issues and food sensitivities and are on a path to healing (some already happily enjoying foods they haven’t dared eat in decades), but thousands more need additional guidance as they determine which of the food intolerances at hand are plaguing them on their quest to reconstruct their gut microbiota, restore the healthy gut microbes to power, and repair the broken tight junctions.

Fortunately, through the gift of modern technology, I have an avenue to bring the book concepts to life, take a deeper dive, and guide you through a comprehensive process that will help you diagnose which food intolerance you’re facing.

It’s quite possible you’ve been struggling with symptoms and no concrete answers or solutions for some time. I’m here to help.

In this training, I’ll dive right into the science, symptoms, and tests for diagnosing your food intolerance type.

This is important: I’m using these 2 hours together to get right into the nitty gritty. The live training will skip the high-level overview of what food intolerances are and how to know if you have one, but you'll be able to review that information in the workbook in case you need a refresher. If you’re joining me, it’s because you already know you suffer the consequences and difficulties from undiagnosed food intolerance and you’re ready to put a name to the face that’s wreaking havoc on your gut.

In other words, you know you have a food intolerance (or are 99% certain you have one; afterall, 20% of the population does), but you’re not sure which, and it’s keeping you from healing.

It could be that symptoms are not consistent…

Or issues seem to come and go…

Perhaps you’ve started fearing certain foods because you think maybe they are causing problems…

Maybe you read The Fiber Fueled Cookbook or my first book Fiber Fueled and it opened a door to healing, but you find your (sometimes vague, broad, and confusing) symptoms overlap across the different food intolerances and digestive issues and you want more information…

Conceivably, you’ve never heard of me, haven’t read my books, never listened to me on a podcast, couldn’t give two candlesticks who I am, but you want a qualified, expert, and scientific approach to getting to the root cause of your food intolerance….

Bottom line: If any of these experiences sound familiar to you, sign up to take your first step towards a path of healing and understanding.

The depth of this training, plus the live Q&A will empower you with the knowledge to understand and properly interpret what’s happening with your body, identify the root of the issue, and get on a path to generating solutions.

Here’s what you’ll learn in this comprehensive training

The 5 steps to diagnosing your unique, specific food intolerance

How to connect specific foods and food groups to the symptoms you're experiencing

What do you if everything you're doing to identify your intolerance hasn't worked so far

The pattern recognition process and typical testing that's used to diagnose or rule out food intolerance possibilities

How to differentiate between a medical condition or a food component causing your symptoms

Medical conditions that masquerade as a food intolerance

How to develop your healing path in a way that is appropriate and specific to you and your unique gut microbiome

... and so much more!

The 5 Steps to Diagnosing Your Food Intolerance

Consider this the backbone and foundation of getting on a path to healing.

If you want to properly treat your food intolerances and sensitivities, you have to know what you’re treating. All choices – what to eat, how much to eat, when to eat, do you need supplements or medicines – come from first understanding what you’re treating. This is why this is the first step, the most important step, and what we will focus our time and energy on.

In the 50+ page interactive companion workbook, you'll go through all 5 steps and utilize a diary and worksheets to...

  • Identify your symptoms
  • Connect symptoms with specific foods
  • Diagnose or rule out different conditions (we'll talk through constipation, Celiac disease, Gallbladder disease, bile salt enteropathy/bile acid malabsorption, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, acid-peptic disorders, microscopic colitis, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic infection, SIBO, and IBS),
  • Pinpoint specific food components that may be driving your food intolerance (such as FODMAPs, histamine and other amine intolerance, sucrose, ultra-processed food, salicylates, glutens and lectins)
  • Get clarity on the testing you need to consider and what to do if all your tests are negative

Plant Points Logo_White

Joining Diagnosing Food Intolerance comes along with plenty of perks, and Dr. B’s Digestible Guide to Plant Points is one of them! If you’re not yet familiar, Plant Points are a fun way to meet my golden rule of getting more plants into your daily diet. Because as we all know by now (hopefully!), more plants equals more health.

You’ll learn what Plant Points are, how much plant makes up a point, what counts/doesn’t count as a Plant Point, answers to the most commonly asked questions about Plant Points, and you’ll get some handy worksheets helping you track just how much plant diversity you’re getting into your diet on a daily and weekly basis. I even whipped up a little challenge to go along with your sheets because who doesn't love a good challenge?!

Nourish Your Gut

Unlike a food allergy, which is an immune response to a food, a food intolerance is a response to food that does not involve the activation of your immune system. There are a number of different mechanisms that can cause food intolerances, ranging from enzyme deficiencies (lactose intolerance is a classic), to pharmacologic (such as monosodium glutamate, or MSG), or your digestive system struggling to keep up with the demands of your diet or other factors of digestive and gastrointestinal functions.

Symptoms may not occur for several hours after the food ingestion and can last for hours or even days. An individual can be sensitive to multiple foods or food groups, making it difficult to isolate what is what. It’s complicated!

To help you begin your path to healing once you’ve identified your specific food intolerance, Chef Alex Caspero has created 4 recipes to nourish your gut and your taste buds! To be honest, even those not suffering with intolerances will love these, they’re delicious!

What’s the Deal with
Food Intolerance Testing?

Unfortunately, despite what you may have heard, there’s no proven blood test to figure out what’s bothering you, since food intolerances don’t activate your immune system; if only it could be that simple.

I totally understand why these tests seem so attractive — when you’re struggling, you just want to be told what to eat and not to eat

Antibody-based food intolerance tests make it seem like the answer could be so simple. But if a test uses antibodies to diagnose food intolerance, it assumes that the immune system is causing the food intolerance, which it is not.

I’ve had hundreds of patients waste their money on these tests, only to be confused by their results or, worse yet, sent down an inappropriate path of dietary restriction.

Our gut microbiome is completely personal and definitely plays a role in digestion, but we haven’t figured out how to explain food intolerance through microbiome testing. We’re working on it!

WHAT’S IT LIKE LEARNING FROM DR. B?

Hey! I'm Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, MD MSCI

(Pronounced Bull-Suh-Wits)-But You Can Just Call Me Dr. B.

You may know me as @TheGutHealthMD. I’m the New York Times bestselling author of the book Fiber Fueled a full-time gastroenterologist, and an internationally recognized gut health expert.

I’ve dedicated my life to learning how to heal the gut from the inside out.

I completed a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University, an MD from Georgetown University, and a master’s in clinical investigation from Northwestern University.

I was also the chief medical resident at Northwestern and the chief gastroenterology fellow at UNC, and I received the highest award given by both my residency and fellowship.

I created this training because many experience food intolerance, but not enough folks talk about it. When we’re educated about a condition, we make the right choices — whether that means seeking the right professional to help us navigate our difficulties or making changes within our control to feel better.

I’m honored to be your teacher and I hope you enjoy the training!
