Are You at a Gas Impasse?

You may feel like your stomach is auditioning for a hot air balloon festival. You might have trouble buttoning your pants or wish you could wear sweatpants to work. Your friends may be wondering if there's a gas leak in the room. Your loved ones know your gut to be a one-(wo)man-band with sounds of different intonation, pitches, and vibrations.

And here’s the thing… you might feel embarrassed about it, so you rarely talk about it in a serious way. You find different things to blame it on, hoping it’ll just go away on its own, but still have it at the forefront of your mind when you’re planning meals and events.

As a GI doc, I find that gas and bloating is a topic no one wants to discuss, but that many suffer from. Now, I’m not talking about the occasional bout of discomfort – I’m talking about chronic issues that are a regular part of your life. The ones you’ve learned to live with, believing that’s just how your body operates.

Here’s what I tell my patients: We need to figure out why this is happening, and get you on the right track so that it’s no longer a problem.

Many of my patients are SHOCKED to hear that gas and bloating itself is NOT the problem. What it actually is, is a signal that there’s a bigger problem to solve.
